Who we are
The Pittsburgh Neighborhood Assemblies are building a permanent, democratic organization, where everyone who lives in our region can be a part of shaping our collective future. We are not a protest group, a single-issue non-profit, a homeowners association, or a social club; we are organizing locally to build a world where everyday people can thrive.
We chose to get organized because the political and economic system has failed us. Our existing institutions protect corporate profits over people’s welfare at every turn. The skyrocketing prices of food, gas, housing, and healthcare are not accidents. Mass incarceration at home and forever war abroad are not mistakes. The system isn’t broken; it was built this way.
If we want something better, we have to learn to imagine something different. In the Neighborhood Assemblies, we work together to build deep community where we live, recognize the roots of our shared struggles, believe that something different is possible, and act strategically to build the collective power we need for the transformation we deserve.
